Target market –
The next step for “Adulting, Inc.” in the target market would have to be finding a way to generate recurring revenue. I think each person I interviewed had a very sound business sense and that came up in all 3 interviews. At this time I don’t see a clear path for that. All of the three interviewees did not think that this venture was sustainable over time, but thought it was something that people certainly could use.
The target market is so wide, but I think that the way that it gets narrowed is by natural selection. This would be widely marketed, but there would only be a small percentage that actually seeks out the information. I believe that is also an uphill battle and was mentioned in my first interview. My second interviewee thought that it was also an uphill battle because of the internet. She thought that people would never just pay for something when they could seek out the free information and pick and choose their directions from many different sources.
New Market :
It hadn’t dawned on me that maybe this could work in reverse. I started to think that maybe the older generations would be able to utilize the same platform to become more up on younger types of things including social media, and how important passwords are, and also learning newer terminology like “memes”.
I interviewed two people that were retired and asked them if they would consider such a service. The response from both was laughter at first, but they took it seriously. The first interviewee certainly felt that everything about electronics and social media was geared toward the younger generation. Both interviewees didn’t think that they would take the time or spend money on a service like this but thought that it was a good idea. Interviewee #2 did not have a phone, and thought apps were appetizers(which I guess they are).
There has been a theme throughout the class about this topic. A lot of interviewees have stated that they see the value in getting access to quality information, but potentially would not be willing to add it to their monthly expenses..
Hey JRuse, I think your reversal of roles though was great. Sure Adulting hits a wide market but I think older people are looking to keep up with the times just as much as new people are attempting to add on culture. I see so many middle aged and older people driving around Gainesville texting, or at least trying to text. They want to be like us.
