14A - Halfway Reflection

1.) Tenacity is needed for any college course, but I'd like to use another "t" word to describe this course.

This course is tedious. One of the biggest things about the course is that if you rush through the instructions, you will miss something or do it wrong. I have learned to really sit down and think about what I'm doing before I'm doing it, and also while I'm doing it. Having coherent thoughts takes time, and this course, while not extremely difficult, is extremely tedious with the process for turning in assignments. I think the process of turning in assignments is almost unnecessarily complicated.

2.) I truly haven't had a "felt like giving up" moment in this course. I have certainly developed a better habit of not leaving my assignments to the very end of the week, or the day due. This class is like quicksand and will not give you any room for error.

3.) First tip - READ READ READ. Understand the requirements of the course and each assignment. It will pay dividends later, as the assignments can depend on each other.

Second tip - Don't try and beat the system. You don't get points for partial assignments. It's all or nothing.

Third tip - The assignments aren't easy. Take your time and have some real thoughts. Your classmates will have some good ideas in their comments on your posts, do the same for them. Tell them what you really think, and if you have a better idea let them in on it.

  1. Hey James,
I completely agree with how you described the assignments as being a bit tedious. In the beginning I didn't read the directions fully and submitted the wrong link and didn't get credit for any of the 3 assignments that were due that week. That is why i think your first tip of reading the instructions is a must for people taking this class next semester.

  2. Hi James, I agree that this course is tedious. There are so many steps in the assignments. And turning them in can be a real pain. Once I did an assignment, posted it on my blog and even did the declaration but somehow missed submitting the URL. And so I got zero credit for a post that had taken me approximately two hours.
