Interviewee #1 – 18yr old male
- This individual did not seem to think there were any alternates to my product. The internet was mentioned but never really expounded on.
- This person doesn’t understand why someone would pay for this info, and does not see the value in it, “when you could just google it”
- Cost matters most to this individual, with ease of use a close second.
- This person prefers everything to be online or app based.
- This person would pay with cash, and has no debit/credit card.
- This person does think that this product would be a good idea, but a bad idea if long-term costs were involved.
Interviewee #2 – 21yr old female
- Definitely sees the need, but doesn’t know of similar alternates other than asking parents/family/trusted friends.
- Quality of info matters most to her over ease of use. I get the feeling this person has been burned on a recent car loan interest rate. Price is also a concern as she is still a student living at home.
- Would prefer buying an app or paying online via cash/card. Would not be interested in a subscription service.
- This individual really had concerns about the data and where it comes from. She thinks the purchase evaluation would depend on the quality of the data.
Interviewee #3 – 31yr old male
- This person sees the internet or message board/blogging communities as the only alternate. But doesn’t think the unregulated internet is best for good information.
- Ease of use matters most, and would not want to pay for this service on a “per device” platform. He would want to pay once.
- This individual would prefer an online type of purchase.
- This person would pay with a card because of purchase protection offered from cards.
- This person thinks that post-purchase evaluation would also depend on the quality of info, and does not see a long term subscription as useful. He stated that the information would be on an as needed basis, and would need to be inexpensive to the point that if he didn’t need any info he wouldn’t worry about a few dollars.
In conclusion, it was very interesting to me that people thought the internet was the better and cheaper way to go. I totally can understand that, but also do not think that the quality of information is good enough on the internet to make good “adulting” decisions. Obviously cost matters to all, and no one wants a cumbersome situation with regard to payment or ease of use. It was also very apparent in talking to these people that cash is certainly not the most preferred method of payment anymore. All in all, I think people do see the value in the product, but aren’t necessarily willing to pay for it. I think that is short-sighted, because there would be potential information that could save them money. I think accuracy of information and cost would be the biggest drivers for this product.
Hey James,
ReplyDeleteI think the internet is one hundred and ten percent the way to go. The internet is the future and so many companies are using it to there advantage. There is a reason why amazon is beating brick and mortar stores, and why netflix took out blockbuster. I think you should really take this input into consideration. Also I agree that it would be somewhat difficult to get people to pay for this but I think with enough thought and hard work you can make it happen! Best of luck.
Internet is always a go to because its "free" when people forget about the fact that they have to pay their internet providers. I way to offer a free app or products online to people is to run ads. Subscription services for this product idea seem silly cause you only really buy a car once every decade. Maybe to establish trust with customers you could do something with KellyBlueBook and make a promise not to take money from car companies. Nice post good job.
