1.) TRAFFIC – I travel over an hour and a half every day in the car. The roads I travel are extremely crowded at the times I sometimes go to and come home from work. My car is a 6-speed. The amounts of stop and go matter.
a. The root cause of this is because like everyone else I am usually travelling with on the road, we are all going to the same employer. Disney World.
b. The secondary cause of this issue is that the infrastructure of the area was never designed to accommodate so many vehicles.
2.) POLITICS IN THE NEWS – I get it. We need to be informed, but what we are getting is not information. It’s a slant. Every network has their own slant. Denzel Washington said it best, “If you don’t watch the news, you’re uninformed. If you watch the news, you’re misinformed.”
a. I think the why for this is because there needs to be an outlet for each person to get their preferred slant on what they think is happening.
b. People stay with what’s comfortable, or what they want to hear.
3.) CAT MEOW AT 3AM – I think that is possibly the most frustrating way to wake up. I am not a cat person, but I kind of got the cats in a previous breakup and haven’t gotten rid of them yet. A loud meow in the morning, while you’re dead asleep, and causes you to wake up in a panic…is just unnecessary. Does not happen all that often, but frustrating when it does.
a. Root cause of this is because I took the cats in the breakup.
b. Secondary cause is completely unknown. This happens when food and litter box are at optimum levels.
4.) MEETINGS THAT LAST TOO LONG AND ARE NOT PRODUCTIVE – I sit in a lot of meetings at work. They vary in length and productivity.
a. Root cause of this is because of complex subjects that require input from many different parties.
b. Secondary cause of an unproductive meeting is the meeting organizer loses control of the room and does not have a proper agenda.
5.) A DEAD MOTORCYCLE BATTERY – I ride motorcycles. Sometimes life gets in the way and the length of time between rides is too great for the battery to overcome, and it dies. That is usually the time that you will get a perfect weather day that is perfect for a ride. You get ready and go out to start it and BOOM…it’s dead.
a. Root cause is that there is no charger applied between rides.
b. Secondary cause is laziness and not taking the few minutes to check the battery before getting ready for a ride.
6.) UNUSUALLY LONG-WINDED TEXTS – Seems like these always come in the morning when I don’t have time to get through them, or I’m just busy doing something else. Usually politically driven, and that’s when I decide I don’t care to read further.
a. Root cause is because I am in a text thread with multiple people with different personalities and views.
b. Secondary cause is because I typically always have my phone on me.
7.) A POOR PACKER SEASON – I am a Green Bay Packers’ fan. This season was not a good one for us, as we did not perform up to expectations and actually had to change the head coach mid-year.
a. Root cause of this is underperforming.
b. Secondary cause of this is a Swiss Cheese defense…full of holes.
8.) BEING SO BUSY THAT I DON’T HAVE ANY “ME” TIME – Pretty self-explanatory here. I work full-time and also go to school full-time.
a. Root cause is that I took a 6 year “semester off”
b. Secondary cause is that I woke up at 26 and started to take life seriously.
9.) LOOKING BACK ON MY EDUCATION PATH – I did not take my education seriously in my early 20’s, and it is definitely one of my life’s regrets. It frustrates me because I really didn’t have my act together, when all the tools were there.
a. Root cause is that priorities were not in order.
b. Secondary cause was being surrounded with the wrong people.
10.) KID SLAPPING THE BACK OF AIRPLANE SEAT – Flight back from Houston last month. Kid would not stop, and the parent was no help.
a. Root cause was the kid being bored.
b. Secondary cause was the parent was not attentive to their child.
11.) MY PARENTS NOT REMEMBERING PASSWORDS – Doesn’t matter how many times I tell them that passwords are important, and don’t need to be overly complicated.
a. Root cause is just a generational gap with electronics.
b. Secondary cause is too complicated of passwords to begin with.
12.) HEAVY CO-WORKER COLOGNE – There is always someone who just always seems to over-do it on the cologne. What are you hiding, buddy?
a. Root cause is too many sprays.
b. Secondary cause is no spatial awareness.
13.) THE MACBOOK TRANSFER OVER TO USB-C – I know this sounds like such a first world problem, but it sucks having to re-buy things because of it.
a. Root cause is technology changing.
b. Secondary cause is the economic gains from now having to re-buy things and also buy specific connectors.
14.) MATH CLASSES – During my associates degree, I left all of my math until the end. That was a huge oversight on my part. Those last 3 semesters were very hard to keep up with.
a. Root cause is my personal loathing of algebra.
b. Secondary cause is not having the proper counseling to tell me not to put those classes all bunched together at the end.
15.) NEGATIVE PEOPLE – I was one. Sometimes I can still be one. Just got to keep things positive and try build people up. We are all on this journey of life together.
a. Root cause is negative people usually are unhappy with themselves.
b. Secondary cause is that negative people want to bring others down with them.
16.) OLD AND DIRTY GUITAR STRINGS - There is no reason a guitar player can’t take 10 minutes and change some strings. Old strings sound terrible and feel terrible.
a. Root cause is just wanting to keep jamming.
b. Secondary cause is usually not having any new string packs around.
17.) OVERSLEEPING – It happens a lot more than I’d care to mention. With waking up early it is easy to do but reflects so poorly on me across the board.
a. Root cause is not going to bed early enough.
b. Secondary cause is laying on my phone, so I don’t hear my alarm.
18.) BEING COLD – I am born and raised in Florida. I don’t enjoy the cold very much. I don’t enjoy being cold and usually have a blanket within reach.
a. Root cause is the temperature diving below 60 degrees.
b. Secondary cause is my acclimation to the fabulous tropical Florida climate.
19.) DOING LAUNDRY – Can we just get a robot to do it?
a. Root cause is too much clothes.
b. Secondary cause is not enough hours in the day to stay caught up.
20.) DEVICE DEPENDENCY – I am certainly guilty also. I think we as a society are too device-dependent. Our phones do literally everything, and we are on them all the time.
a. Root cause is the convenience of utilizing such a capable device.
b. Secondary cause is a societal need of always feeling “connected”
Thanks,
James
